Thanks @sandiegostreetartofficial for this great shot of the Totem Pole piece by Persue, EwokMSK, Kems, Dabs and Myla on the Martin Building in Bankers Hill!

And obviously thanks to the artists for making the trip to San Diego for this project as well as the WLP group for an opportunity to help beautify my hometown!

Filed under: Cool Stuff (TM) - skip down to TL;DR if you have a short attention span.
So, my BF and I were driving to dinner one night last week when he brought up that he’d be having some friends come into town to visit, and probably to paint. I asked him where he was thinking of having them paint, and he mentioned a couple walls in North Park he’d wanted to re-do for awhile, but then said he’d probably end up bringing them up on a rooftop to do some small graffiti pieces.
He and his friends (photos above) are well known throughout the Graffiti and Street-Art world for their distinct styles. Dabs and Myla are an artist couple from Australia (currently based in LA), Scien and Klor of 123Klan are from Europe but are based in Montreal. Slick is originally from Hawaii but is also based in LA. Persue was born and raised in San Diego. And all of them have made their marks and had an influential hand in the world of street art and graffiti. Their work, if they are painting in San Diego, should be seen!
I insisted that they should do a more visible wall, and, despite the last minute nature of this surprise visit, scrambled to find something decent for them to paint. I reached out to people I know around the city and was able to come back a few days later with three solid options. All included payment for a lift and buff paint, two included a budget to pay the talent. They are ecstatic.
TL;DR: these world renowned artists are coming to paint a wall in San Diego this weekend, and I had a hand in helping them find a good wall! Finally, some rad public art for my city!!! I’m so excited to be a part of this, and to bring some amazing artists who have painted all over the world, into my humble hometown.
We’ll be in Bankers Hill. I’ll post more info as we get the logistics down pat. Keep an eye and an ear out San Diegans. Hopefully this opportunity will lead to more throughout the city. I’d love for there to be more of a public art scene in SD.

It has begun. If you’re gonna do it, at least go all the way…don’t water it down. Sigh.
